The Cycles
The sylvari believe that the portion of the day during which you were born speaks to a person’s personality, interests, and special talents. They pay close attention to this, and each of the four cycles—Dawn, Noon, Dusk and Night—are guided by one of the firstborn. Those four firstborn, called the Luminaries, tend to be the most active in the governance of the sylvari race. They work together to bring new knowledge into the Grove, defend the Pale Tree, and build political relationships with the other races of Tyria. Although the other firstborn are considered wise mentors and have certain authority, the Luminaries fulfill the primary tasks of maintaining society and guiding the sylvari as a whole.
The Cycle of Dawn
Sylvari born during d3 gold the Cycle of the Dawn, from midnight to 6 a.m., are natural talkers and planners. They are the diplomats of the sylvari race, and tend to be gregarious and friendly types. Their Luminary is the clever Aife, whose skill with words is only equaled by her keen aim with a bow. She is a diplomat and has traveled to each of the large cities of Tyria on behalf of her people. Those sylvari who wish to see the world would do well to speak with her and gain her wisdom before they begin their journey.

“We must take that risk, to give them a chance to change their ways,” the firstborn said. “All things have a right to grow. The blossom is brother to the weed.” Soberly, she put away her sword and pushed the altar back. Beneath it, Cadeyrn could hear the snakes scrambling, splashing away into the ocean tide.
“Again the firstborn quote the Tablet when I ask for logic.” He growled beneath his breath. “I do not agree.”

The Savage Pride of the Jotun 5

The jotun (pronounced JŌ-tun) are the last remnants of an ancient society of giants. Once powerful, advanced, and arrogant, they proclaimed themselves rulers of the Shiverpeak Mountains and raised great monuments to themselves on the highest peaks. Their leaders, known as giant-kings, were tremendously powerful beings, as skilled in feats of strength as they were in magic and lore.
And yet, as the jotun defeated all who threatened their control over the mountains, they did not adjust to peace. Convinced that they were the superior race, they became obsessed with the purity of their blood and the number of heroes, warlords, and giant-kings in each lineage. Blood became a reason for taking one mate over another, seizing land, and in time, wiping out other “lesser” tribes. Eventually, the jotun conquered or destroyed all their external enemies, and then the giant-kings turned on each other, each seeking ultimate control. d3 gold Families waged war upon one another, and brother made war on brother, until the tribes erupted in vicious internal wars for control.

Some historians believe that the age of jotun magic may even pre-date the coming of the human gods and the creation of the Bloodstones. Yet, during their long history of infighting, civil war, and slaughter, the jotun lost all knowledge and understanding of magic. Their powerful sages were killed, and their lore-keepers and mystics were wiped out before they could continue the tradition diablo 3 gold of jotun magic. Society
Jotun organize themselves into large tribes, related by blood or union, led by the strongest. This strength may come from arms, or magic, or any other ability—but it is always shown through physicality and brute force. The jotun do not respect a leader that is not physically able to enforce his laws and rulings. They would kill and replace anyone who lost gw2 gold their strength, failed, or did not lead the tribe to glory. Because of this, it is critical for jotun to protect their females and children. While many of the more “barbaric” races of Tyria have a sense of honor or a code of ethics, the jotun have very few moral restrictions inherent in their society. Religion

While it cannot be said the jotun “worship” their ancestors, they certainly attempt to emulate them through conquest, single-minded self-absorption, and personal pride.
Behind the Scenes
Even though we had established the jotun in the original games, we wanted to really bring them to life in Guild Wars 2, particularly for the norn areas of the world. We wanted them to be more than “nasty customers with big clubs,” and the way we chose to do that was to give them a long history—but a tragic one. We wanted to make the ogres an old race and follow that with the jotun, since the two species are interlinked. Giving the jotun a history that had been lost—ruined by their own flaws—gives them a lot of depth and plays into the overall story of Guild Wars 2.
The new jotun art depicts the race as being taller and more intelligent looking than the art from the original Guild Wars, which helps to better illustrate the race’s history and the fact that they are sentient, smart creatures—not rock-tossing droolers. The primitivism we see in their clothing and weapons is a sharp contrast to the magical monuments located at their camps—and that, too, is deliberate. Showing the decline of a race from power and civilization into primitivism, all because they could not stop fighting amongst themselves, is important to the game’s theme. It illustrates what might happen if the player character races can’t give up their old arguments and unite against the threat of the Elder Dragons.

The Memoirs of Klaine; a Mesmer – Chapter I

I was a noble, a fancy Memser, and a vision in pink and purple. I was the most flamboyant man in Tyria – really, a Mesmer in pink/purple armor, you think you can top that? – and I was gorgeous. I slicked my hair back as I admired my reflection in the mirror. No, I wasn’t going to go all cray cray and ask the mirror who the fairest of them all was because I knew in my heart that it was me. Period.
Though I was born to riches and a silver spoon – literally – in my mouth, I knew I didn’t want to become one of those fat, jolly men who bathed in gold and didn’t give a tinker’s toot to the plight of the less fortunate. Yeah sure, we were rich now and could afford all kinds of luxurious fabrics and exotic meat from the land of Tyria but we should never ever tempt Fate because the cosmic universe just loves to throw you a curveball when you least expect it. And what that happens, all you horrible human beings who’ve never known hardship will be thrown out on your asses and starve to death.

I know what it’s like to be abandoned. Back to my zen self… I decided to travel out to Shaemoor today because I wanted to get some fresh air. The village was under attack by centaurs! Those foul beasts were setting cottages on fire and harassing the poor defenseless village folks. They trampled the crops with no mercy and hacked and slashed their way through the mass hysteria, slaying indiscriminately.
A Seraph ran past me to help but I heard a ‘swoosh’ and he crumbled to the ground. An arrow – presumably a centaur’s – had flown swift and true and found its way into his neck. I instinctively rolled out of the way as I heard a second ‘swoosh’ and another arrow missed my head by inches, shearing threads of my hair.
Not my hair, you bitch! I charged towards him before he could draw his bow again and unsheathed d3 items my sword; this had become personal. I stabbed the Tamini Archer with a flurry of fanciful strikes and it wasn’t long before he dropped to the floor, lifeless. A man behind me hollered for my attention and instructed me to head to the inn where it was safe. But it wasn’t a haven for long because Captain Thackery requested for reinforcements at the garrison and I valiantly volunteered.
Don’t get me wrong, I hate that bumbling, lovesick fool. I’ve heard of his legend of course, the once invincible Edge of Destiny which splintered after their defeat at the claws of Kralkatorrik, an Elder Dragon. All I know was that he picked Queen Jennah and decided to help defend Ebonhawk, while leaving the group defenseless. Irony was, Jennah ultimately saved the city with her mesmeric powers so I don’t see why she needed Captain Thackery anyway, other than to be a needy girlfriend. But this was about the people and the village. It was about saving lives.
I ran towards the garrison, lightning flashing and thunder roaring in the distance and all the while being pelted relentlessly by the rain. I was soaked to the bone but even then, I knew I looked good wet. The garrison gates were bolted and the armed guards yelled gw2 gold for me to defend against the invasion and I turned just in time to see a hoard of centaurs charging towards us. Swords, shields, bows and all.
My mind went, “We’re screwed.” But I raised my sword anyway, prepared to engage the first enemy when a ball of fire slammed into his chest. I looked up and saw a group of people racing towards us. I couldn’t tell how many there were with the rain blurring my vision but I could see that there was definitely an Elementalist, Ranger and Warrior in their midst.
I joined the battle and as I hacked and slashed, I was convinced I looked the best amongst my comrades. I was elegant with the handling of my sword, not barbaric. I didn’t have a pet, but I had clones which shattered in a shade of pink and butterflies. I didn’t command the forces of the elements, but my spells were accompanied by lavish pinky effects.
I destroyed my opponents with artistic swordsmanship, twirled and leapt into the air gracefully, and phased in and out with a pink hue. I am a swan. I flew gracefully amongst the battlefield, taking down enemies one by one and escaped unscathed, without so much as a speck of dirt on me. I truly am gorgeous.
The gates flew open and Captain Thackery ordered guild wars 2 guide us to join him at the other side where more centaur forces from their centaur lands were invading. It wasn’t long before we slaughtered the unfeeling beasts and almost their shaman until he incapacitated us with earth spikes and ran away with his tail between his legs. We gave chase only to stop in horror as he summoned an Earth Elemental. Or Earth Elemental hands to be exact. It was huge, unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. It was easily 10 times my height and it created a swirling vortex between its hands, sucking up everything around it.

I slashed at the stone and granite, pretty sure that I wasn’t doing any damage but slowly and surely, I was chipping away at its health. A piece of debris smashed into the ground beside me and a mini Earth Elemental spawned, arms raised, ready to beat me senseless until an arrow flew out of nowhere and hit him squarely in the face. It dealt no lasting damage to the elemental as I could see, but the poor arrow had been bent out of shape. A ferocious bear followed hot on the trail of the arrow and pounced on the elemental and its attention had now changed to the pet’s master.
I left the Ranger to his poor fate as I continued hacking away. It wasn’t long till Captain Thackery cautioned us to run back for the Elemental’s hands were going to explode but it was too late. The impact sent debris, trees, water mills, wagons and even cows flying in all direction. I took something heavy to the head and I blacked out.
Three days later, I regained consciousness and a Priestess of Dwayna informed me that a couple of my friends came to visit, including a Lord Faren who seemed awfully interested in her. She even advised me to get some fresh air and exercise and suggested I help the people of Shaemoor.
Fine by me, it was what I wanted to do anyway before I got dragged into this centaur debacle. To aid my journey, she offered a choice of two weapons I could use: Focus or pistol. I chose the pistol; gunning someone down had to be more fun than smacking them to death with a cowbell.
Invigorated, rejuvenated, energized and inspired, I stepped out of the inn into the lands of Shaemoor. Somehow, I knew the day had come. This was the day my adventure began. The day I became responsible to someone other than myself. This was the day I started my path to becoming a hero, not just of Shaemoor but Tyria. Little did I know how right I was and the horrors that awaited me beyond the fields of Shaemoor…

Here, as promised, is my SWTOR Imperial Agent Companion Guide, which will inform you on everything you need to know about the companion’s you will receive whilst playing as an Imperial Agent.

Regardless of which class you choose to play as, you will always get 5 companions and a ship droid. Imperial Agents are very similar to the Smuggler class in the Republic allegiance. They use the same sorts of moves and both can specialize I either DPS or Healing when choosing your advanced class at level 10.

Kaliyo D’jannis

Kaliyo Djannis prizes her freedom and will lie, murder and blackmail in order to ensure that she is in control of a situation and able to indulge her vices. Known to pursue lengthy vendettas to redress grievances. Possess a track record of expertly manipulating employers, swtor credits lovers and associates (agents should not be fooled by attempts at seduction).

As with many mercenaries, her loyalty cannot be purchased, but her services can be -if only temporarily. You will find Kaliyo on Hutta, the starter planet for Imperial Agents, at around level 8. She prefers the use of Blaster Pistols or Blaster Rifles, and uses a Shield Generator off-hand. She specializes in being a ranged DPS, therefore her main attributes are Aim and Endurance.

2V-R8

When you receive your ship at the end of Dromund Kaas, you will notice there is a new companion on board called 2V-R8. As you will soon find out, he isn’t much use what so ever, as he isn’t designed for combat. If, for some obscure reason you choose to use him in battle, his buy swtor credits stances can be changed to either punch with his fists or heal.

He is not very strong in either stance though, so I would recommend using a different companion. You can also equip him with new parts that may be offered to you upon completing quests. You cannot gain affection with 2V-R8, and although he doesn’t have a specific proficiency in crew skills, this is all I ever use ship droids for, as to not use a companion you will require in combat.

Vector Hyllis

Vector is a male human who specializes in melee DPS. You will be able to recruit him to your crew at around level 27, once you finish your class quests on Alderaan. He prefers use of an Electrostaff and a generator due to being melee in combat. Vector Hyllus has repeatedly expressed admiration for Imperial swtor gold accomplishments while indicating a desire to spread Imperial influence through diplomatic channels.

Although he is an Imperial character, he has a light personality, meaning if you wish to play as a female character and romance him, or even just gain his affection as a male, he prefers light conversation options.

Doctor Eckard Lokin

Doctor Lokin is the only healing companion you will receive as an Imperial Agent. You can find him on Taris at around level 32. His age and surname suggest Lokin was born on Dromund Kaas during the pre-war years.

Files acquired during Operation: Freefall reference a “Dr. E. Lokin” working as Science and Medical Advisor to Kaas City military police during this period, but no visual is provided. If this is your first ever character to reach wow gold this level on SWTOR, you will unlock your legacy title, giving your character a surname, plus lots of other cool things to be announced in March. Ensign Raina Temple

Enign Raina Temple is a human female companion who is available to recruit once you’ve completed your class quests on Hoth. This will probably be at around level 41, though this can vary dependent upon how fast or slow you choose to complete them. She is an Imperial agent herself, working on Hoth for the Chiss Ascendancy.

She works with the Chiss and avoids direct contact with the empire as she fears her innate force sensitivity might be discovered. Although she loves the empire and the Sith, she has a light personality, and therefore can be romanced by a male who gains enough affection with her.

Scorpio

Scorpio is different to most SWTOR companions as it doesn’t have a gender, though it identifies as female. She is a droid, who joins your crew after completion of the planet Belsavis. This should be at around level 45 dependent on your progression speed. Scorpio specializes in being a melee Tank, and therefore prefers the use of an Electrostaff and Shield Generator. She is definitely more useful than 2V-R8, the ship droid, though she still isn’t romance-able.

Rick Santorum's path to the nomination remains stuck somewhere on the spectrum between improbable and implausible. But at the moment, the candidate has got a better-than-even chance to steal back some of the momentum that the media narrative can provide, should he manage to win this week's contests in Alabama and Mississippi. With so much hanging in the balance, Santorum's social conservative patrons have picked this moment to step up their support -- to the tune of $1.78 million, perhaps more. Newt Gingrich Cancels Kansas Campaign Stops

After wining only one state on Super Tuesday, Newt Gingrich is refocusing his campaign efforts, and they don't include Kansas.

Greece's Debt Crisis Bodes Ill for Us All

I think of myself as an optimist. Over the years, I have seen a lot of crises resolved, as often as not by what can only be described as muddling through.



It is hard to see how the world will muddle through the Greek debt crisis. "New Bailout is a Reprieve for Greece, but Doubts Persist," was the February 21 headline in the New York Times. Count me among the doubters.



As complicated as the debt crisis is, the resolution of the problem is in the hands of two governments -- Germany and Greece -- and, more importantly, the electorates in each of those democracies.



Before I explain that, let's look at how grim runescape gold the situation is. The Greek national debt stands at 160 percent of GDP. In order to get relief from the rest of the eurozone (read: Germany), the government had to agree to get that down to 120.5 percent by 2020. In order to do that, Greece has introduced severe austerity measures that will slash 150,000 government jobs, cut private sector wages by 22 percent, reduce or eliminate pensions, sell off public enterprises, and raise taxes. All this in a country where unemployment among those under 25 is just under 50 percent.



Here's the catch-22: if the government were able to buy runescape gold do all of this (a big if), the immediate effects on the Greek economy would be crushing. The austerity measures are bound to shrink the economy, thus making the debt to GDP ratio even worse.



Meanwhile bondholders have agreed to a 50 percent cut in value, and the second round of bailouts just announced allows Greece temporarily to avoid a default. But what happens now?



Within Greece, the people have to agree with what their leaders have promised to its eurozone benefactors. Will they accept the extreme hardships that will be imposed on them? Greece is a democracy. The riots and the burning of buildings in Athens aren't hopeful signs for the current government.



Germany, which essentially controls the eurozone, is a democracy as well. Just how many billions of their money will the German people sacrifice to prop up a country they consider irresponsible? West Germany shouldered a herculean economic load when the wall came down and it merged with East Germany. Put yourself in a German's place. You pick up your newspaper last October and read that Diomidis Spinellis, Secretary General of the special task force to stop tax evasion in the Greek Finance Ministry, has thrown up his hands in disgust and quit because of what he describes as a "deficit of management" will to stop the corruption that permeates the tax system. Obviously the systematic tax evasion that has long been part of Greek culture is proving difficult to change. Am I, as a German, going to support my government if it wants to send more of my money to this place?

There are lots of catch-22s in this terrible crisis, and they should have been taken into account when the eurozone was first established. The countries that joined gave up control of their individual monetary policies when they lost the ability to control their money supply. It was clear from the beginning that Germany would end up in effective control of eurozone monetary policy because of its size, economic power and culture. It should also have been clear that part of that culture was a deeply ingrained fear of inflation, a legacy of the collapse of the Weimar Republic.



We are watching a tragedy unfold, one that could ultimately have wide-ranging negative effects on our own economy. I can only wish I were more optimistic about our chances of muddling through.

Slavery and the Presidents: Where Is the Public Acknowledgement?

On Feb. 9, a member of Congress took an important step in attempting to educate the nation about an important slice of history relative to the White House. Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-NY) sent a letter to President Barack Obama to suggesting that the latter find a way to commemorate those enslaved individuals who helped to build the White House.







The letter stated, in part, "An acknowledgement of the role of slave labor displayed in the White House would be an important swtor credits symbol that the United States does not run from its history, but rather learns from it." The White House, of course, is an important icon of the nation's identity but embodies one of its most long-standing contradiction: a revolution against tyranny that maintain (and expanded) the enslavement of millions.







According to the White House website, in the last two years alone, there were 1.5 million individuals buy swtor credits who visited the White House. None of those visitors would necessarily know that 12 U.S. presidents were slaveholders and seven of them had slaves in the building we now call the White House which opened in 1801. There is no mention of these facts either in White House tourist brochures or any other documents given to visitors.







George Washington is not included in this scenario because he and nine of his slaves spent his presidency swtor gold in Philadelphia. Ironically, a plaque does exist recognizing those nine individuals which is part of the new pavilion in Philadelphia that houses the Liberty Bell. The pavilion is built over the site and specifically the slave quarters where Washington lived as president. It took a decade of protests, lawsuits, and grassroots activism to finally get the National Park Service to include the plaque which it initially refused to do.







Plaques wow gold also exist that acknowledge the slaves who helped to build the U.S. Capitol, many of whom also worked on the White House. In June 2010, Congress dedicated two plaques in "Emancipation Hall" at the Congressional Visitor's Center. The plaques state, "This original exterior wall was constructed between 1793 and 1800 of sandstone quarried by laborers, including enslaved African Americans who were an important part of the work force that built the United States Capitol."

For example, there were at least five black carpenters -- Peter, Ben, Daniel, Harry, and Tom -- who worked on both structures. Slave labor also cut down trees, made bricks, cleared the land, and performed many, many other tasks all without pay, adequate food, or basic health care.







A public plaque or some other display would, in part, complete the circle of owning the history of presidents, Congress, and slavery. While there are hundreds of memorials, plaques, and other means that present a false narrative of American history, there are too few that genuinely tell the more complicated and often harsh reality that many faced as U.S. democracy unfolded.

As Rep. Ackerman notes in his letter, "I urge you to take steps to have an appropriate representation acknowledging the role of slave labor in constructing the White House in an area of public viewing."

Let Us Honor Slave-Owning Presidents?

Here it is again, the intersection of Presidents Day and Black History Month. Eight of our early presidents, beginning with George Washington, owned slaves during their tenure in the nation's highest office. The two I am most familiar with, given my career at the historic sites of Monticello and Montpelier, and as the author of the recently published A Slave in the White House (Palgrave Macmillan, $28.00) are Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.

Jefferson and Madison owned over a hundred enslaved people at their Virginia plantations and took several slaves with them to swtor credits the White House. Running the domestic side of the executive mansion was a private undertaking then, and the third and fourth president each assembled a household staff, headed by a French steward, of about ten: white and free black workers, slaves hired in the capital, as well as slaves from their plantation.

Slavery was not a debate. It was a crime being perpetrated on real people in real time.

Ten-year-old Paul Jennings was one of the home slaves selected by President James Madison for the White House household staff. As a buy swtor credits footman Jennings set and served meals, assisted the coachman, and ran messages and other errands. Later he became Madison's personal manservant or valet, and in freedom he authored the first White House memoir.

One enslaved man, John Freeman, served as a White House footman during both Jefferson's and Madison's administrations. Jefferson purchased Freeman in 1804 with the understanding, set by his former master, that he was to be freed in sixteen years. In 1809, the year Madison's first term began, the third president sold Freeman to his swtor gold successor for $231.81 (calculated to the penny based on Freeman's remaining time as a slave). This is the only recorded instance of the sale of human property between these two presidents, though Jefferson also sold a woman, Thenia Hemings, and her five young daughters, to another of our slave-owning presidents, James Monroe.

It is easy to see the contradiction--some say hypocrisy--in the author of the Declaration of Independence and the father of the Constitution lording over plantations of more than one hundred slaves and presiding over a government wow gold devoted to upholding individual rights while being served by enslaved footmen in livery.

Yet we tend to make excuses for the failure of our Founding Fathers to end slavery. They were men of their time, they had to put union first, they did not understand that we are all one biological race. We look back and see slavery less as a political issue, more as a moral offense. The truth is that Madison and Jefferson saw it that way, too.

Madison acknowledged that slavery was an evil of great magnitude, a "moral, social and economical" failure. Jefferson called it an "abominable buy wow gold crime" and a "moral depravity" and allowed that should a violent contest between slaves and slave owners transpire, there was no doubt which side God would be on.

Both men supported gradual emancipation if something could be done with the free blacks. It was the concept of colonization, the transport of free blacks to Africa that offered Madison relief from his despair over slavery. Maybe all slaves could be freed, he wrote, if the "double operation"--emancipation followed by colonization--was put in place.

Thus in the end it was not slavery but race--racism--that was the cheap wow gold sticking point. Jefferson and Madison thought that people of color should enjoy the same individual rights as white citizens. But not here. They averred that black and white could never live harmoniously in America together.

Two centuries later (centuries!) we are still working on proving them wrong in their prediction, still working on realizing a truly pluralistic society that all Americans honor.

Paul Jennings's great grandson, Dr. C Herbert Marshall, who, along with his fellow black doctors, could not practice in all-white hospitals or even join the American Medical Association, wrote an "op-ed" in the Negro History Bulletin in February of 1960 that started off, " I have every reason to be proud of being an American." It concluded, "Today, we find ourselves on the threshold of a new era ushering in the type of freedom for all for which my fore-parents sacrificed so much."

If Dr. Marshall could offer that positive a sentiment in February 1960, then certainly we in February 2012 can take a sanguine view of the distance we have come since then. If we are not post-racial yet, we are getting there. No matter the sins of the Fathers, it is on us now. A sprint to the finish, anyone? Everyone?

In the Debate on Immigration, Deportation Must Be Sensible

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, in his Roll Call op-ed ("President Is Ignoring Immigration Laws," Feb. 6), argues that a policy of deporting serious criminals instead of parents, military families and students attending college is bad for the country. Once again the Republicans are on the wrong side of the law-and-order approach to immigration.

Like so many Republican accusations swtor credits about this president, the ones surrounding immigration come straight out of a fantasy world. I wish we had the president that Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) says we have. If we did, I could have saved two trips to Park Police headquarters for being arrested in front of the White House protesting the president's deportation policies.

But the fact is that President Barack Obama has deported more people, put more personnel on the ground at the border and reduced illegal entry more than any previous president. The question is not how many people to deport. Unfortunately, given the complete obstructionism of the Republican side to craft a more sensible alternative, we are stuck with a system that forcibly removes about 400,000 people per year, with huge costs to taxpayers, families and communities. For this president, the question has not been how many to deport but who to deport first. A sophomore in college or a handyman with two U.S. citizen children are simply not threats to public safety. When this Congress is over and the president is re-elected, I rs gold fully expect a debate on how we re-establish law and order in our immigration system, and I fully expect the leading Republicans on the immigration issue to fight every attempt at reform tooth and nail. Too many on that side of the aisle are addicted to scapegoating and denigrating immigrants -- and Democrats -- to have it any other way.

But the rest of us want a legal immigration system that works and a way for those who have been here for years and built lives here -- the vast majority of those who are here illegally in the absence of a functioning legal immigration system -- to get in the system and on the books so that immigration enforcement has teeth and employers play by the rules.

We will have that debate eventually, over the strenuous objections of Republicans who oppose a sensible law-and-order approach to immigration reform.

The Decline of Public Good

Meryl Streep's eery reincarnation of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady brings to mind Thatcher's most famous quip, "there is no such thing as 'society.'" None of the dwindling herd of Republican candidates has quoted her yet but they might as well considering their unremitting bashing of everything public.

What defines a society is a set of mutual benefits and duties embodied most visibly in public institutions -- wow gold public schools, public libraries, public transportation, public hospitals, public parks, public museums, public recreation, public universities, and so on.

Public institutions are supported by all taxpayers, and are available to all. If the tax system is progressive, those who better off (and who, presumably, have benefitted from many of these same public institutions) help pay runescape gold for everyone else.

"Privatize" means pay-for-it-yourself. The practical consequence of this in an economy whose wealth and income are now more concentrated than any time in 90 years is to make high-quality public goods available to fewer and fewer.

Much of the rest of what's considered "public" has become so shoddy that those who can afford to find private alternatives. Gated communities and office parks now come with their own manicured lawns and walkways, security guards, and backup power systems.

Why the decline of public institutions? The financial squeeze on government at all levels since 2008 explains only part of it. Most families still wanted good public services and institutions but could no longer afford the tab.

From that time onward, almost all the gains from growth have gone to the top. The great expansion of public institutions in America began in the early years of 20th century when progressive reformers championed the idea that we all benefit from public goods. Excellent schools, roads, parks, playgrounds, and transit systems would knit the new industrial society together, create better citizens, and generate widespread prosperity. Education, for example, was less a personal investment than a public good -- improving the entire community and ultimately the nation.
